Today, Linz Airport ranks as the fifth largest airport in Austria by passenger numbers, following Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Graz. The airport is co-owned, with 50% of the shares held by the state of Upper Austria and the other 50% by the city of Linz.
Terminals.
The airport spans 383 hectares (946 acres) and features a passenger terminal, two runways, and comprehensive logistics and maintenance facilities. It is relatively small, with 11 gates. In the entrance hall, you'll find a shop and a café, both conveniently located near the check-in and airline counters. After passing through security, there is a duty-free shop and a small café accessible from the gate areas for both domestic and international flights. The airport also boasts a roof terrace open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the summer months, offering a great spot to watch the planes. Access to the terrace is free for airport guests, and there's even a playground for children up there. Additionally, special viewing points have been set up for plane spotters, allowing visitors to photograph the aircraft from various angles without any obstructive views.
Runway and Apron.
The airport features a precision runway that stretches 3000 meters, equipped with two instrument landing systems and a helipad. There are 16 parking spots designated for medium-haul aircraft. While Linz Airport primarily serves military purposes, it also has civilian usage rights. The civilian area is situated to the north of the runway, while to the south lies Austria's second-largest barracks and a military airfield known as "Fliegerhorst Vogler." On November 1, 2010, both runway 09/27 and helipad 07/25 were renamed to runway 08/26 and helipad 07/25 due to permanent changes in magnetic declination. The updated wind rose variation indicated a magnetic value closer to 08/26, prompting the Austrian air traffic control, Austro Control, to implement the new runway designation.
Management.
Linz Airport is managed by Flughafen Linz GmbH, which is jointly owned by OÖ Verkehrsholding GmbH and the city of Linz.
