The Hof-Plauen airfield Flughafen Hof-Plauen GmbH, City of Hof, Freistaat Bayern, Freistoot Bayern (The airport has the IATA Airport Code , IATA code: HOQ, ICAO code: EDQM) is a commercial airfield recognized under aviation law in the independent city of Hof (Saale). Since 1998, Flughafen Hof-Plauen GmbH & Co. KG has been managing the airfield, with the city of Hof owning a 60% share and the district of Hof holding 40%. In 2022, the airfield saw around 9,000 take-offs and landings. Currently, Hof-Plauen airfield mainly caters to business and cargo flights, as well as providing training for private pilots.
The airport is located at an elevation of 1,958 feet (597 m) above mean sea level. It has a single runway designated 08/26, featuring an asphalt surface that measures 1,480 by 30 meters (4,856 ft × 98 ft).
Airlines and destinations.
Currently, there are no scheduled flights to or from Hof–Plauen Airport. The last service was provided by Cirrus Airlines for Lufthansa to Frankfurt Airport, which ended in January 2012. Since then, the airport has only seen charter and business flights. In 2017, there were approximately 7,000 takeoffs and landings. Additionally, BMW utilizes the airport and its runway for testing new vehicles, primarily electric and autonomous cars.
Airport infrastructure.
The commercial airfield features a 1,480-meter long and 30-meter wide asphalt runway oriented east-west, designated as runway 08/26. A taxiway runs parallel to the runway, extending halfway along its length. Additionally, there is a concrete apron at the airfield. On the building side, the facility includes a control tower, an airfield terminal with shops, a pilot's lounge, a conference room, a hangar, an airfield fire department, and fueling facilities. The airport parking lot accommodates 196 vehicles. As of August 2023, a new grass taxiway was constructed, extending the existing taxiway to the threshold of runway 08 for aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of up to 2 tons. This extension aims to alleviate congestion on busy days. The new grass runway officially opened on November 1, 2023, and is available for use following air traffic control instructions.
