The airport is located on a flat area surrounded by Mount Kanin and Mount Rombon to the north, both rising over 2000 meters, while to the south, just 200 meters away, there is a steep slope that drops down to the beautiful Soča River. Bovec Airport accommodates a variety of aviation activities, including glider operations, powered aircraft flights, model aircraft flying, classic skydiving, ultralight aircraft, and powered hang gliders. It also offers training for both powered aircraft and glider pilots, as well as skydiver training and other aviation-related activities. All aircraft must be equipped with radio equipment that can operate on the designated airport frequency. Scenic flights from Bovec Airport are provided by the partner company Janez let d.o.o. The airport has a basic runway that measures 850 by 40 meters.
Next to the airport hangar, there is a fire station that contains the offices and classroom of the Posočje Aero Club. In winter, the airport is closed when the ground is icy or when the snow depth exceeds 5 centimeters. Because it is situated among alpine peaks, Bovec Airport is regarded as one of the most distinctive airports in Slovenia.
