The airfield also has a gliding school and a restaurant. The nearby Karawanken mountain range is particularly suitable for gliding.
Just north of the airport lies the Karawanken mountain range, which facilitates challenging flight routes during poor weather conditions. West of Lake Bled, you can see Slovenia's highest mountain range, the Julian Alps, which includes Slovenia's highest peak, Triglav (elevation 2864 m).
For experienced and ambitious glider pilots, Lesce-Bled serves as an ideal starting point for long-distance flights toward Italy, Austria, and even further to Germany, France, and Switzerland. Ridges and mountains near Lesce enable early thermal activity, allowing for early takeoffs. Pilots can then follow the Alps in a northwestern direction. Due to the ridges that provide ridge lift even during north and southwest winds, high speeds are achievable.
