In addition to regular flights, Oban Airport offers sightseeing tours over the Loch Linnhe region. These scenic flights take in sights such as Oban, the Gulf of Corryvreckan, Tobermory, Castle Stalker, and the Bridge over the Atlantic.
The airport serves as a vital link between the mainland and the islands of Coll, Colonsay, Islay, and Tiree. The runways on Coll and Colonsay, managed by the Argyll and Bute Council, were significantly upgraded and received CAA commercial traffic licenses in 2008, marking the start of scheduled flights that same year.
Previously, the site was known as RAF Connel, which functioned as a Royal Air Force emergency landing ground during World War II from 1942 to 1945. The airfield was under the operation of No. 17 Group RAF of RAF Coastal Command and featured two paved runways. It also played a role in supporting RAF Oban, a nearby seaplane base.
